The war in Ukraine has sparked an unprecedented wave of solidarity. Many people offer accommodation, gifts, some have set out to help even at the border. However, not everyone fleeing the war receives the same support. The color of the skin often determines the rescue. "The bus drivers refused to go to the place when they found out that they were Ukrainian Roma," described Jaroslav Miko, who coordinates aid at the Slovak border. Miko, together with other employees of the Czechs organization, provided six buses in the last week, which brought Ukrainian Roma from the Slovak border to the Czech Republic. On Saturday, he took part in one of the trips himself.
"There was a film crew on the bus with me filming a documentary into which I translated the impressions of the evacuated women. They all had a huge overview of the fighting and the political situation. On the phones they showed us photos of their fathers and brothers, who enlisted at the front. They said that they wanted to work in the Czech Republic and return home as soon as possible, "said Miko.
