I have been thinking about this as well.
How would you design a homesteading community to dynamically scale up in size, have easy transportation so that all amenities and other people are within walking distance, but also so that everyone has enough privacy and ownership of their own land?
Is there a definite line that can be drawn where you have people producing and selling their own goods, vs working together in an offsite farm or whatever? I have become obsessed with the idea of planning an off-shoot community but I don't really know where to begin. Too many variables.
