we already use very few variants of species, this is called monoculture, the phytoflora infestants (potato blight) that nearly starved a 1/3rd of the world ages back was cause by just this, monoculture, with out varied species harvest all it takes is one plant disease to starve the world, since our land is so nutrient depleted from not having enough space to rotate crops, we use single plant species that are genetically enhanced to survive, with no arable soil we are fucking doomed if plant diseases mutate beyond our control

I like both of these concepts for small communities and individual homesteads, but let's be real--the energy input far exceeds output, and "farmed fish" in large scale has been pretty disastrous ecologically/biologically.
There may be smarter ways to do it, but you can bet large corps don't give a shit about anything but bottom line.
Local farming/animal husbandry will be the only viable way in the next few decades.

The average persone uses 7 times more iron than someone did a 100 years ago. Combining this with our insane increase in population after WW2 it is expected Iron will become scarce in the ground before 2100. Some rere earth metals that we use in magnets for computers, phones, cars, solar panels and windmills are also becoming scarce. Some as soon as 2027. Oil is running out (as fuel not for luxury products) around 2050 if not before. The averag Uranium mine is 13% less efficient than it was 30 years ago. Even with all our incentives to go green CO2 output has still gone up and more forests are still being cut than than replanted.
