The rapid dominance should have knocked out comunications and controlled power to succeed. They will win, but they have fucked up massively and the losses are unacceptable for a conflict that should have been a win in less than a week

Ukraine is a modern battlehardened military backed by the west that has had EIGHT YEARS to prep defenses and in under two weeks despite 24/7 real time intelligence and constant NATO weapon resupplies the Russians have conquered 1/3 of their territory and have besieged most of its largest cities
Taking a country the size of Ukraine in 3 months would be a military feat on its own. The Russians are about to do it in less than 30 days.
That's the thing, russia should have been able to overpower ukraine enough to get the normal army and goverment to capitulate. Partisans and guerrillas are to be dealt with later, but fucking up an almost surprise attack this much is criminal. Allowing even fucking internet still in Ukraine is beyond incompetent.

Civilian casualties and optics. As I understand it, the old USSR tactic was the surround a city, drive out the population, and once all the civvies were gone, that's when everything gets flattened. Of course Ukraine knows this, and is thus drawing out the evacuation. And it's hard to blame Ukraine for endangering civilian lives when literally no one is listening to you.
