There are literally thousands of different slavic languages. If you know Russian, you can travel all over Siberia learning them all. They are basically the same as Russian but with variations on the spelling, pronunciation, and word usage. Ukrainian is such a language, it's just another slavic language, just like all the multitudes of others.
So far as I know, Ukraine doesn't actually have any history of independence, other than one time when they were conquered by the Polish-Lithuanian empire for a while. But anyway Ukrainian history basically begins when Lenin declared them an independent country. Why did Lenin do this? Maybe for administrative purposes. Maybe to try and weaken Russian nationalism. Who really knows.
Anyway Ukrainian history starts there.
During the Cold War, the US tactic was basically to support right wing nationalist regimes all over the world. For the simple reason that these dictators were VERY good at killing the communists in their country. It was a highly effective tactic the CIA used against Soviet expansion, which was a big fear. The Marxist ideology basically maintained that Communism needed to swallow the entire globe, so the rich people would have nowhere left to run. The Soviets were trying to inspire these revolutions and swallow up country after country into communism, which was giving more resources to their power bloc. That's really what the war in Korea and Vietnam was all about, trying to halt the forward expansion of communism.
Anyway the US Deep State did a similar thing in Ukraine. Supported the rise of a nationalist government to undermine Russian influence there. And then to attempt to move in with NATO, telling that nationalist government "we'll help you against Russia". And this nationalist government is safely run by a jew, so it won't bite them back.
Changing the name of the capitol is done to separate it from Russia, and make it sound more "Ukrainian".
