All is fair in geopolitics. Get on our level. Iran got sanctioned for being an imminent nuclear threat since 1994 yet still no nuclear weapon. The US courts hold Iran responsible for the 9/11 attacks and used frozen Iranian assets to pay the families of the victims. Iran was also sanctioned for using chemical weapons on the iraqi Kurds, despite the USA knew it was Saddam.
None of morals and laws matter at all to the US and UK, what only matters is what you can get away with. Just remember that General Suleimani and the IRGC were labelled terrorist groups for doing exactly what the West is doing in Ukraine now, which is giving weapons and training to your enemies.

No, it was a terribly stupid move for NATO, an own goal that makes us less secure, even if the Russians aren't dead set against it. Even if the countries had friendly relations, the chance of a nuclear misunderstanding goes up astronomically. I don't know why they do it. Maybe they want the gas. Even then it's not worth the risk. The worst thing that could happen to American security would be a win in Ukraine and I've said this since the colored revolution.
Warsaw Pact countries agreed to join NATO and the EU. They didnt necessarily have to, they wanted to for the gibs and have to deal with that.
It is a short term win that will cost you big in the long term.
