I am studying foreign languages (french + elective) and mandarin or arabic are not available (the other options are meh, (italian, Portuguese, japanese))

Fine by me if you think so but we still don't know what the outcome of the war will be. Russian still isn't good to learn in the long run unless you have an interest in the culture. You can get a good job in Russia if you're perfectly fluent but you also have to obtain additional qualifications other than speaking languages.

I am learning pure math on the side, I specifically choose this major because its not that stressful and I can work towards getting a solid mathematical maturity while I get a couple of languages under my belt
