They had 40 years to make something that could counter this and they did nothing. What a joke.

>They had 40 years to make something that could counter this and they did nothing. What a joke.
kek at soviets.
I wonder tho, flares? but when they notice it it's too late right?

the US has nothing to counter it either. IR guided manpads are still death to helicopters. flares are still the pinnacle of anti IR manpads

how can one military instrument be so based?

in fact the only way the US countered them in afghanistan was sending guys in with suitcases full of USD to buy them back

are stingers IR? I heard/read somewhere that stingers sport some interesting system that guides the missile using contrast of tracked aircraft against background, so flares wouldn't work

The WHOLE entire Russian army?

i'm sure they've been improved but there's no counter to any IR manpad other than flares, which don't have a very high success rate

Can't counter most manpads in a helicopter brainlet.

Flares should fire automatically, problem is Russians and their corruption meaning they don’t work

>Flares should fire automatically,
based on? some near range radar detecting inb4 zooooomie metal object?

based on sensors that detect missile launches brainlet, read

Their aircraft evidently don't have any kind of system to detect the incoming missile and automatically deploy flares. Granted IR guided missiles are way harder to detect than radar guided missiles. Odds of the pilot visually spotting the incoming missile in time to launch flares are low.
You can see in videos from the first day of the invasion one helicopter gets struck by a missile and every helicopter starts spamming flares.

I guess the expensive high tech option would be to have a 360 degree active radar constantly scanning for incoming missiles, then firing some sort of interceptor, probably kinetic. That would be expensive, heavy, and probably quite difficult to retrofit onto an old airframe design though.

why not use stereoscopic computer vision?
even russian brainlets should be able to hack something viable together

Easily countered with laser defense

Now that we have worked out that russhits are totally useless retards at fighting will this be the end of the tank?

I don't think stereo cameras alone would be accurate enough at a distance. Might get a lot of false positives.
Wouldn't be a terrible idea to use cameras and radar/lidar to cross check each other though.

god you monkeys need to shut the fuck up. you have no idea what you're talking about

>will this be the end of the tank?
more competent nations solve this better, probably

>Easily countered with laser defense
>*attaches 200 KG laser and 8000 KG powerbank to heli*
>all done, sir Putin!

hmmm, fire at it?

What else are you gonna use to detect an incoming missile?
Whatever you use you want to be pretty certain before you automatically deploy countermeasures so you don't run out. Especially if we're talking about some kind of theoretical CIWS type thing.

In the way the russians use it, yes.

bro this shit already exists and has existed for decades. you're spitballing retarded ideas. i flew helicopters in the miltiary.

how do you use tanks in a way that they don't get fucked by javelins? The only way I can think of is to fight sandniggers who only have AKs and will be bombed to shit by the time the tanks get there.

Russia didn't sent GtA missiles to Afghanistan for our entire 20 year war
You can be 100% that will change and anti american militants in the future will have greater capabilities

Combined arms, there should be a drone or other surveillance and artillery at the ready to fuck up anyone that dares launch a javelin.

>They had 40 years to make something that could counter this
But they did counter it in afghanistan, albeit not 100%, and the americans kept developing it to overcome those counters. I think after 1991 russia just can't afford this high-tech electrical research and any low-tech counter won't work on the current gen system. Question is how would the US helicopters fair against nato manpads? Because if they can't counter it either I'm not gonna blame the financially inferior russians for falling behind.

That doesn't work if your enemy also has drones and artillery in a massive theater.

>rpg 7
>buckbreaks nato army all the time
You are missing the point retard. Even with old ass equipment with right terrain can give a victory over superior enemy.
