Every time I drive past a work zone with a construction crew, there is always 1 token female construction worker who is doing nothing, most likely to the side playing around on her phone. On the rare occasions that the female worker is helping, she is doing the most basic tasks while the men do the actual labor. I once saw the female worker holding a sign that said "slow" for the traffic - this women could be replaced by a fucking post. This was not the case 20 years ago when construction crews were all male.

Also, women on the construction end I've experienced all female crews of painters, cleaners and several supervisors and managers. The supervisors mainly do checklists of items to close units, but men do it too. Many sign holders and traffic direction women too, again, lots of males doing that job. (Toronto) there's a lot of eastern European and South American women killing it in construction, albiet rare compared to males.
Yes construction is frustratingly inefficient, as a self employed contractor it kills me how much time people waste, I usually get in and out hours before anyone and produce more, but get paid the same.

tradefag here it's usually two things - public works contract requires that a certain % of workers are women - road crews employ cute flaggers in order to clam down angry delayed drivers (also improves worker morale to have a flirty woman or two around)

the painting crew of women I knew were all mexican, the owner was a woman and had some males working too. The cleaning crew was peruvian or something deep south american. The company was owned by a dude but the women ran the show. I like having women around on sites because it unironically keeps the men on their best behaviour, they are more polite, cleaner, they try to put on a show for the women then talk shit when they aren't around. It's a good thing. Those cleaners would nap like 1/3 of the day though, they'd find a place and just go to sleep in a pile after lunch then get up an hour later and keep cleaning.

Could be that way, but there's also another possibility that comes to mind. If a woman is working a job like that it's usually not her first choice and she had to do it to earn money so maybe she is more respectable than some other people who just resort to sex work or whatever while this girl is doing a real job.
