Russia wants the Russian speaking eastern regions of Ukraine, and nothing else. They'll negocy a peace treaty with Ukraine when they have enough of a upper hand, ask for the independance of those regions, and things are going to be over, Russian troops will leave Ukraine and that's it.
Do note that Ukraine had agreed to do that already in 2014 with the Minsk agreements, but 8 years later they still didn't.
