it doesn't need to happen. china and taiwan's economy will become so intertwined over the next few decades that china will effectively own taiwan. they're going to buy the island, not invade it.

Because taiwan is almost impossible to take. Its basically one gigantic city with a big ass mountain range and everyone on the island is trained to fight.

They would have to. Maintaining supplies and ammunition after establishing a beachhead while several million inhabitants are resisting is damn near impossible. The only option would be to glass the place and the chinese wouldnt do that.

Because China is watching and waiting to see how Ukraine is turning out. The sanctions on Russia have already seriously hampered their economic prospects through their new Silk Road project (Belt and Road Initiative), most of which travels through Russia - and they do not want to face any more of those same sanctions themselves. It actually would serve their interests for the conflict to end as soon as possible.
