What was the point of going to war with Japan in WW2?

Why did the US even go to war with Japan in WW2? They were close trading allies with the US and didn't really antagonize America at all. Instead we side and protect the Chinese during who became the enemy of today and even back then you could see they would be an enemy of tomorrow. We also instigated a war with Japan by cutting off a majority of their oil supplies practically setting up a conflict with them and then play the victim when they attack us. How did the WW2 generation fuck up so bad that even to this day we are facing the repercussions of their actions?

Because they attacked first?

Japan only attacked when the US embargoed their oil imports.

Because America thought they were a push over nation and weak.
Except they ended up fighting zealots and had to nuke them into submission.

Declaring sanctions is basically an act of war, so America technically attacked first. Get it right.

Pearl Harbor was allowed to happen

The United States just needed a scapegoat to officially enter the war and also a test dummy for the nuke. Simply as.

Jews.

Because isolationism only extended to Europe, America wanted to be a colonial power they wanted a weak Japan. Lack of hindsight might show us that we should've let the axis win, but alas, we can't change the past

Did you miss the part where we cut off 80-90% of their oil and then put an embargo on them to make it difficult for them to acquire oil? How is this not an act of war? If any country did this to the US it would immediately be seen as an aggressive act.

dont they teach you kids anything in school?

you have to be 18 to post on this board.

Control over the Pacific ocean.

Also gives us forward staging areas for future invasions of Asia (Korea, Vietnam, etc. even though those didn't pan out).

japan's imperial ambitions threatened america's own

Moot point.
once any country is attacked it has to go to war.
it was their own fault.
they forced to USA to go to war against them.
hiltler's germany also immediately declared war on USA right after the japanese bombed pearl harbor.
both of them must have been as crazy as a shithouse rat to have done this.

Yes, Jews strike again

The declaration of war came at the same time as the attack started.

the were suicide bombing us wit jets full of rabies infected fleas.

>America starts war over a ship being sunk: episode 15.
Japan and the U.S. were going to go to war regardless of minor details like pearl harbor. Both were expanding powers vying for control of the same region. Japan was seriously outmatched though so they probably should've cut a deal and stayed the pre-eminent asian power, but their unprecedented successes in the past against Russia and such made them overconfident.

If it wasn't pearl harbor or the oil embargo it would've been some other incident.

>go to bar
>pick on dude all night
>he finally has enough of your shit and punches you
>dude is the agressor

This was a set up by the Americans, Roosevelt already knew beforehand that the Japs would attack Pearl Harbor.

Amphetamine usage pretty high in both countries at that time.
Imagine being a wartime leader on speed and getting a few victories. "Lets goooooo" as the youngsters say today

>They were close trading allies
NOOO!!!!! NOT MY TRADERINO!

The Pacific was our domain, so sayeth Washington to London after WW1

Bombing the nation is a major escalation no one can downplay that. Sanctions may technically be an act of war but bombing America massively meant the US had to retaliate in full force.
Regardless, Japan wished this upon themselves the moment they tried to control all of Asia.

If u can’t handle the bantz stay out of the bar

They're referring to FDR's administration smartass. Who actively antagonized the Japanese like we're doing to Russia now

thats right.
if some guy punches you then he is the aggressor.
i am glad that you agree with me on this.
