Considering how the geography enabled Russians to strike from 3 sides simultaneously, it's really no surprise that they are advancing. Considering that and the manpower and equipment advantage, Russians should be doing better. They are giving Ukranians time to arm and consolidate and if they get involved in heavy urban fighting, it's going to be very bloody for them.

The US lost 2k soldiers in afghanistan in 20 years and 4k in Iraq in 15+ years neutral sources estimate that Russia lost around that many in a fucking week Ukranie estimate put it 3 times to 5 times that number

There seems to be ready made positions along highways. They can just occupy pre dug ambush points and wait for something to come rumbling down the road. Hit, capture or destroy, move to the next position. It's a very effective tactic where 5 or 6 men with ATGM can absolutely control a large area.
