This is indeed more informational, but it makes a kind of bad argument as a diagram. There is no difference between controlling roads and controlling unpopulated regions between them. This makes it seem like if the Russians don't have a soldier in every individual acre that they don't control the land. In reality, this is how soldiers have always advanced in populated areas. The overall progress is not great, but no need to make it look even worse than it is.
