Gentle reminder - the US is building artillery that can fire 2000 (two thousand) kilometres

Have a nice day, enemies.

They rejected a rail gun design because it could only do a few hundred km. So this is new tech.

Reminder that it was already built 50 years ago.

So basically firing a rocket out of a gun, because the explosive force required to propel a shell 1,000km away with a single explosive charge would destroy the gun and everything else within half a mile

I'm using a security tweaked Debian Linux with hardened Firefox.

we already have this only it comes with a pilot and can be used multiple times

I'm using my moms phone, is she gonna get in trouble?

It's the printer ink philosophy, Why make something that can fire endless cheap bullets when you can charge much, much more for rockets?

Why not just use satellites?

>So basically firing a rocket out of a gun, because the explosive force required to propel a shell 1,000km away with a single explosive charge would destroy the gun and everything else within half a mile.
No. Don't be stupid. It's a rocket boost because it's vastly cheaper to use a rocket boost once you exit most of the atmosphere, rather than some limit on the explosive that would somehow destroy everything within a half mile. You sound like a fudd lore retard that talks about hydrostatic shock and how a near miss with a .50 call will rip an arm off.

it's like you niggers don't know about american orbital superweapon which shots missiles without explosive charge because all you need is high speed for high impact and it works same as explosion

Tungsten

>crash one on your enemies?

They are very light and will burn up

its prob been replaced by something more awesome and less detectable

also you do not want to kill a million people everytime you have a disagreement

Rods From God

Sounds like some smooth brain that likes round numbers threw out the 2000 kilometers number to some autistic science nerd and because he doesn't actually think about anything outside of numbers he calculated what could hypothetically could be done but didn't think about why and how of it.

So why don't you make war on the sea of bering instead of Europe?

satellite weapons are expensive, highly visible, have a lifespan limited by their onboard propellant, follow highly predictable orbits, and any weapon launched from one would take upwards of half an hour to reach it's target

what's that? you need to strike Putin's swimming pool pronto? sorry, satellite is not in alignment with target, you'll have to wait a few hours for the earth to spin
okay it's been a few hours but we've launched the projectile... oh, Russia detected the launch, calculated the trajectory and and Putin calmly evacuated the area 20 minutes before impact

>>Why not just use satellites?
Cost. A satellite in orbit needs vastly more velocity to orbit than you need to fling something a relatively short distance like 2,000km. Also rockets are hugely more expensive than guns.

A gun alone can't put something into orbit, the payload needs a booster or else the periapsis would intersect with the ground. We also can't use a conventional gun to put something to orbital speed because explosives are not fast enough. You can get around this with gas guns that have a barrel with connected gas chambers that are compressed by an explosive charge that raises the pressure of the gas and allows projectile to exceed the limits of conventional explosives.

But with a gun you can get something way above most of the atmosphere kick off a booster rocket to get it going and then have glide wings pop out for terminal guidance and a lot of extra range. But it's not a super mobile system, it would need a dedicated ship to work or something big enough to mount a gun barrel 35m long and 140 tonnes.

Yes I have seen the movie Goldeneye.

Rod from God

>A gun alone can't put something into orbit,
It's possible but the amount of friction created by something at sea level going fast enough basically means it would be on fire and probably melting before it left the barrel.

Pretty sure it’s illegal to put weapons on satellites
