I thought it's most common close enemy pockets first before keep advancing. Maybe it was a deceive movement and they'll close the pocket with the right column while the left column keeps towards Kiev. hard to tell without actual numbers.

if you want to minimize casualties it makes more sense to encircle the cities than deal with brutal street to street fighting.

If this were the strategy it would be easier for Russia to utilise their overwhelming numbers to flood the rural areas and encircle the medium to large sized cities. They haven't done this, they've been getting bogged down on the outskirts of small cities and accruing causalities

The Ukrainians are liars sure, but this has been a terrible offensive by Russia and I wouldn't buy that this is just because they are so nice and worry about the wellbeing of Ukrainian civs

Russia doesn't have overwhelming numbers. They have a really terrible manpower issue related to their early 90's baby bust (which never really recovered). Part of the reason this war is happening is to shrink their borders so they have less border to guard long term.

By what measure? What you're seeing is wide encirclements. We saw this in Donbas (yeah they weren't Russian, but they certainly had Russian advisors) and we saw this in Syria. They can't get out of the shadow what a pain in the dick Grozny was, and really they shouldn't. They're doing a lot of probing, baiting, and movement to figure out where they can squeeze by with surrounding elements while main force pins. We still haven't seen loads of casualties, but I'm not also gonna go full shill and claim there aren't any at all. I imagine the dudes we're seeing captured are recon elements, which by previously stated method of war will probably see lots of casualties as it's easy to isolate yourself if main army is pinning opfor and you're just a part of a prodding element to see if town X has more than a couple mgs only to get nailed by a stinger.
