But the Soviet Union was only a superpower because it encompassed all of Eastern Europe, obviously Russia alone isn't on the same level. This is the first time where Americans have really paid attention to Russian military operations and, in contrast with the hyperbolic expectations set for us by the media, we see them taking their time with Ukraine. Because this is in such contrast with the previously held belief, there is a tendency to directly contradict that previous belief and declare that Russia is actually incompetent and thus losing the war.
