And it's a little bit subtle so some might miss it, but even the Night Owl, who's like the "good guy" can only get hard when he's out running around doing superhero shit. He's as much a sadist as the rest of them although if I remember right the movie kinda-sorta glosses over that by letting him get hard from saving a bunch of innocent people in a burning building but it's still pretty much the same theme in the context and in the subtext.
