Inaccurate depiction of socialism regardless if it is national or not. The real picture is all of them standing in bread lines because no one wants to work. Socialism does not reward hardwork or innovation, so you will have none. It's a race to the bottom, who can do the least work because everyone gets the same shit. Your doctors will have as much experience as your janitors. More people will just be thrown into deep death pits. Go join a commune or move to North Korea and you will see. North Korea has had free socialized healthcare since 1960's, what do you think they do when you're sick? How about businesses that engage in bad practice get either outcompeted by better practitioners or maybe the rope in more extreme circumstances? Survival of the fittest. Or, in this case, those who are best to the customer.

It would be interesting to have some kind of compromise position where large corporations operate independently, but with a modified mandate: instead of shareholder value as their only concern, they would be obliged to operate with the interests of their workers and the nation in mind.
Some kind of oversight organization that would try to ensure that would happen, for example by punishing them for abusive practices or trying to steer them in certain directions.
Private equity, buybacks, etc would be banned, maybe dividends too, and a certain percentage of profits would have to invested in R&D.
