The problem is viruses, bacteria and the like mutate so risk infect you regardless of who they initially targeted.
You could take steps to slow this to crawl, but that'd only make treating/vaccinating agianst the disease easier.
A bigger risk is either an apocalyptic releasing backyard bioengineered plagues indiscriminately or an isolated society (as in personally isolated, like the solarians in the naked sun) do the same knowing it's hurty more communal societies more.
