yeah, i understand that he speaks a certain variety of truth, one that i happen to be sympathetic to. i am just disenchanted by this apparent willingness to overlook the shortcomings of one's chosen political ideology. anti-US/NATO people then shill for Iran/Syria/Russia/China/Vietnam, while pro-NATO people tell obvious lies about "liberal democracies" and Open Societies, etc...
it seems exceedingly rare for a commentator to be open and honest about the shortcomings of their chosen political system, which to me is a necessary precursor for building something better. i lived in two of these communist countries for 1/3 of my life, and when i first traveled there I was a starry-eyed Marxist who wanted to see how the free education and healthcare etc worked in a Marxist worker's paradise. unfortunately what i found was a corrupt society being devoured from within by nepotism and ossified political/economic systems which globalization had more or less turned into authoritarian hypercapitalism wearing a hammer and sickle. i learned the language, and talked to people at all levels of society, of all ages, all around the country, so i know what i'm talking about. it bummed me out.
when i came back to the US and got involved in politics (Bernie, food not bombs type shit etc) the tankies would always want to ask me about my experience as an ostensible leftist in a Marxist worker's paradise, working closely with the party (i taught english to party members for a few years in different places, and often taught their children and wives). but they would always go blank when i'd start talking about the blatant corruption, the craven greed, the absolute coldhearted callousness towards the poor, the broken double system with black and grey economies, and so forth.
Tankies are no better than libtards or Fox News neocons. everyone just chooses their preferred reality and anything which conflicts with their version of the truth, they stick their fingers in their ears
