A focus on equality removes some of that tension from society, allowing growth and advancement without the constant threat of the lower classes rising up to murder their overlords.
Why are we seeing a resurgence in Marxism and socialism? Because of inequality. The lower classes are getting restless again and are contemplating radical movements, revolutions, and extreme policies.
