If you understand the geopolitics of the region you'd understand that he literally had no choice but to get control of Ukraine, like right fuckin now, before they had a chance to join EU/NATO due to the geographical implications of the entire Ukrainian border being under their control, plus their gas pipeline projects to keep their economy from getting btfo. If he attached after they had a chance to join, it would be an all out war with the west. His hand was forced, but the approach has been a total chimpout so far. Probably thought he could do it quickly and quietly but that obviously didn't happen since this has been the biggest media orgy since the coof started.

The only thing that likely went wrong for him was the level of resistance on the ground. He knew the world would reject his actions, he undoubtedly anticipated it. China will fill any void in their economy the world left. Putin is not stupid and most likely isn’t in mental decline like western media speculates. They’re projecting and it’s not helpful. Literally the only winning outcome for the entirety of the world is if Putin is somehow abruptly removed from office and the assault on Ukraine halted. However, even removal doesn’t actually guarantee an end to the war because an actual psychopath could take the helm and plunge the world into nuclear winter.

Russia already got Crimea in 2014, so they managed to shut down Ukraine's Black Sea expansion and access to oil deposits. Shell and Exxon fucked off years ago, too. nah. pretty sure China doesn't want Russia engaged in war. They want a secure and cheap path to sell their goods into Europe. The way I understand it is that part of Putin's agreement with China (during their talks last spring I think?) was him doing what he is doing currently. He already planned to do what he is currently doing.

What I'd like to know is why he and China didn't go ahead and move to a gold back currency like everyone was afraid they were going to do. It would have severely hurt US's economy and financial power and the US wouldn't be able to isolate Russia like they are trying to do. I haven't heard a good explanation as to why they didn't
