Putin considers Ukrainians, 'his people', not in the ownership sense, but the same people, same land and the same history. Many areas have people that would call themselves Russians. He does not want to harm the people, the history, the buildings, etc.

He wants to replace the globohomo leadership that is strip mining Ukraine with corruption - totally normal US democrat kids all work for energy companies there. All there heavy industry is shut down as a weak Ukraine can be controlled by NATO money. NATO is happy to add weapons to Ukraine; do the people know they would be literally glassed over if they launched on Russia? Did they vote for this? It’s not that the Russians suck. They’ve always sucked. The reason they’re getting their me asses kicked is that the US and the UK spent the last decade UNTRAINING the Ukrainian army of their Soviet tactics. We built up their NCO corps and taught them to fight decentralized. In the absence of orders, Ukrainian forces are pushing the attack. Russians are stuck in their supply lines waiting for commands from higher ups. When their officer get killed, they either run away, surrender or die in place.
