He can't hold it, the best case scenario is that Ukraine sues for peace, recognises Russia's sovereignty over Crimea and some of the Eastern territory that was already controlled by separatists and an undertaking not to join NATO and the EU.
Not that I think he's actually going to get all of those things. And it comes at the price of shattering Russian military prestige, crashing the Russian economy and becoming a dependant junior partner to China, like North Korea.
