Putin has made the deliberate calculation that everything Russia stands to lose in regards to energy sales and supply chain to the West can be mitigated by reallocating all those sectors to servicing China. Being closed off from the West is viewed by Putin as an ADVANTAGE not a detriment. Any short term loses are acceptable if he can restore the 'Glory' of the Russian Empire and devote Russia to powering and supplying the rise of China to bring down Russia's competitors.
