The Battle of Algiers is a stellar film. Maybe a bit controversial for a Frenchman but it seemed alright to me.

have you seen The Cruel Sea? underrated navalkino that probably filters a lot of people being from 1953 and in black and white, same as The Caine Mutiny to a degree
