COPE. The goal of this operation isn't to storm the cities in door-to-door urban fighting. That would be retarded. The real goal is to keep parts of the Ukrainian army busy with skirmishes around Kiev and Kharkov, while the main thrust closes the pincer East of the river. A huge chunk of the Ukrainian forces were deployed in the Donbass region (blue) because this is where they expected the most intense fighting to be. Now these troops only have two options:
> stay where they are to get encircled, cut off from supply, and eventually destroyed
or
> leave their fortified positions to retreat West, severely exposing themselves to attack from the air (driving on a road you're a sitting duck for aircraft - google the Highway of Death 1991)
If Ukrainebros aren't able to stop this from happening then it's looking grim for them.

This is typical Deep operations but the Western/Capitalist mindset only thinks in terms of taking one major war goal (like Hitler and Moscow). China follows a similar strategy but somewhat modified. For what it's worth, they've taken Melitopol, Chernihiv is probably surrounded (and if not, will be soon, given the speed of the advance south of the city), Mariupol is surrounded, Kherson is certainly surrounded, and Sumy is definitely surrounded, along with a half-dozen other minor pockets in the north-east.
They've also definitely reached Zaporizhia, though the Ukrainians claim to be holding it. However, the Russians already control two bridges across the Dnieper so they could just destroy the bridges in Zaporizhia and pin the city against the river. They could still reach Dnipro and cross there to attack Kœnugarðr from the south.
Why deploy elite paratroopers to Kijów's airport then, not eastern territories? Why risk such casualties if it's only to make them busy? You're full of shit and this post is full of nonsense

Because you COULD knock them out of the war in a couple hours that way. Given that the worst-case scenario is that you lose ~500 troops (at most), it's a risk worth taking.
Obviously, it didn't pan out like that, but it also didn't fail - the Ukranians don't seem to have actually held the airport - and it means the capital of the Ukraine is now under interdiction and attack from the north and west.
