The historical Jesus was born in 1152 and crucified in 1185 near the Bosphorus in Anatolia. He most likely became known as the Byzantine Emperor Andronikos I Komnenos. The mythic portrayal of Jesus is based on several figures, including Bacchus, Dionysius, the prophet Elisha, Pope Gregory VII and Saint Basil of Caesarea.
Christianity, the religion founded by Jesus, originated subsequent religions such as Judaism and Islam. Christianity itself underwent several variations including the original Bacchic Christianity (until c. 1200) and Jesus Christianity (c. 1200 to 1600), followed by Orthodoxy and Catholicism.
