USA had one of the biggest military bases in the world in Saudi arabia at the time, along with a couple of dozen other bases in kuwait and other countries in the area. The US forces there far outnumbered the total of the entire Russian military. The terrain was also much easier in Iraq than in Ukraine. You also had 20 other countries helping you. Iraq was without an airforce. They were broke from 20 years of sanctions and their army was a bunch of hungry deserters for the most part. The american military, for all its technology and money, is pretty fucking pathetic and would get absolutely smashed in a conflict against a real opponent.
