That's the thing. All the banks lent to Ukraine for decades now to fix up and become independent of Russia. Now Russia can't just take it and reap the benefit. Nobody is using nuclear weapons since MAD/etc. All warfare will be door to door, which is costly due to casualties. So, it won't be possible. You cannot control a foreign population without control/subjugation. Even then resistance forces make it not worthwhile.
The Russian population is even more demoralized than Europeans and Americans. Outside Moscow, there will be near zero pushback against Putin's regime.
This is all do to the decades of hyper-normilization that is so ingrained into the population's psyche that they can't even lift themselves out of commie blocks that are incredibly dilapidated after 50-60 years of use despite the incredibly sparse areas of settlement. Russians are an eternally conquered people, completely devoid of exploration, individualism and self resourcefulness.
The problem with that is that if it's a lebensraum campaign like they say it is, you can't just flatten the country, you have to occupy it. If they have to occupy it, that means keeping soldiers there to control a country full of people that despise you. This leads to a regime change in Russia due to a collapse in their economy or it leads to years of guerilla warfare like in Afghanistan.

This was possible in Tibet because the locals had no means of fighting back against a superior armed force. For Ukraine, they have (or will have) the means to depreciate Russian forces with minimal cost. Free anti tank, etc weapons against a million dollar tank. Plus Russian demoralisation. It's really impossible to occupy indefinitely.

This. It's the first time the Russian army has gone up against advanced Western weapons specifically designed to take out Russian armor. It's shocked them and very difficult to defend against...like a bear getting attacked by a swarm of bees.
I support Ukraine, but things could go really bad if Russia doesn't manage to take it soon.
- For one, it's gonna give the conflict time to escalate and widen, NATO's already pushing the line by sending in unaffiliated troops
- If Putin's not gonna back down, it might end up in a coup, instability and/or a general state of chaos in Russia, with hardline oligarchs vying for the throne
- NATO might use this sign of weakness and really go for Russia's throat
- Sanctions, total isolation and economic collapse could push Russia to desperate measures
