Sewer thread

ITT we discuss the politics of sewers and post anything related to sewers

Here's a really cool map showing sewer outfalls and their drainage areas in New York City. Did you know that 70% of New York City has a "combined sewer system", and old type of sewer system where stormwater from roofs and streets runs in the same pipes as the sewage. Such systems are designed to overflow during heavy rainfall, which means that instead of the sewage/stormwater mix going to the treatment plants, a percentage of it goes straight into the waterways, through outfalls such as those shown in the map.

>Most of the fatberg discovered in Whitechapel in London in 2017, weighing 130 tonnes (130,000 kg; 140 short tons) and stretching more than 250 metres (820 ft), was converted into biodiesel.

>But building separate sewers in New York would be prohibitively expensive. Instead the city is constructing huge underground reservoirs where the overflow can be held until water levels subside and the waste can be safely pumped into the treatment plants without spilling.

What happens if you coom into a toilet and tey yo flush the coom?

Bump for interesting/unusual topic

bump, but you should add some interesting info to discuss, sweden.

NYC drinking water is surprisingly good. I think it comes from clean upstate sources.

Sewers are a sign of civilization, strange how niggers, kikes, and chinks create shitty sewers and live in stagnant filth. I hate kikes.

Raw water is oregon tap water kek

So, this is the famous hyperfixation on tangent topics that is a sign of real autism, right?

Kikes always have the cleanest water supplies and sewers around. That has been the case even in ancient times.
That's literally how kikes got almost no problems with the black plague while your ilk kept dying like the plague rats you are.

You might have a point. Some examples:
>What should be done about the problem of sewage overflowing into waterways?
>CSO tanks vs transporting the sewage out of town vs building a separate sewer system?
>What should be done to prevent sewage spills during power outages?

In case of nuclear war, are sewers a meme or a legit place to escape? Dunno who's trolling who at this point, it was nice to meet you anons.

Yeah, that's a good start.
Other potential topics of interest is the history of sewage systems, especially the comparison among different groups in the same time period. This relates to Another topic of interest is any open secret that might not be well known about sewage, from cartels to its effect on drinkable water provided by the locale (and comparison of various implementations and what can be done at a personal level to reduce those negative effects), etc. For example: most of canada, as far as I'm aware, dumps raw sewage in the ocean which causes eutrophication.
We can also discuss alternatives to ocean dumping and which is best.
For example, this paper:
digitalcommons.pace.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1385&context=pelr
Explains the issues with ocean dumping and the dilemmas with switching to other methods. Among other things, it suggests, from my reading, that a lot of the shit that's dumped in the water actually spreads in the air and therefore could easily come back to contaminate the air we breathe...

>good.

it's icky but can be useful when reprocessed

You can get notifications for sewage spills to your phone, email, or text.

There seems to be nothing reported after August 2021.

That heavily depends on where you are located and how the sewers were built, but generally it's useless. Open to the outside on multiple ends, impossible to secure some closed off area, no clean air supply, too many diseases floating around, no food or water (although you could hunt rats for their blood as 'water' and their flesh as food, they carry too many diseases again), and most are not structurally sound enough to survive explosions anyway, even from normal high-yield, let alone nukes.

Understood, thanks for the quick reply.

Bump

here's an interesting one I read about a few years back.
In Albany NY a building constructed in 1913 failed to properly connect its sewage line. For 106 years it dumped 6,000 gallons of sewage water into the Hudson River everyday
