the best answer is that it exists in the routing tables maintained by various "autonomous system" (AS - en.wikipedia.org
...
it's a communications stack that has routing nodes.

It's in space. Outside of the Kuiper Belt.
as and bgp aren't that important when both Anna and Bob have an FTP and HTTP servers @home.
There have been bulk charcharias megaldon fossil teeth found here. Do I risk it? I’m scared bros.
it is the part that makes the difference. networks are just networks otherwise. it really comes in to play when you've been dealing with peering and paying to put bandwidth into IXs.
Internet is the network itself. It's the infrastructure and it's "all around you".
The contents are stored in datacenters, basically huge clusters of computers. Imagine something between a warehouse and a huge fridge and full of computers.
well it goes through some cables under the oceans that could easily be cut by remote/autonomous submarines like the ones Russia has. sometimes different armies have already done this but it gets blamed on sharks

The real question you should be asking is how fake the internet is. Websites like Reddit were able to bot their way into popularity by simulating discussions with users. That was back in '09/10.
Not only that, but internet privacy is a spook. RATs have existed since the 90s. The entire world wide web is alive only through good faith if all of your personal data is already compromised but you don't even know.
For instance, China has been using RATs to steal data from the DoD since the 90s. But we still do business with them. The most advanced tool for filtering out RATs was created by SolarWinds, but even they got hacked. Nothing is secure or safe anymore.
It's a series of tubes on the back of trucks.
If those trucks break down, or are attacked, it can cause internet outages.

In practical everyday terms you can relate to? The internet is in your mom's basement.
Buncha cables across the world (mostly on the floor of the oceans), with big server farms here and there.
it depends. where is most of your traffic going to end up? for me it used to be offices and certain tier ISPs. since covid things have changed some. if your customers are businesses with their own AS, ask them what they're doing and why, or just look it up yourself. meeting your customers or partners in the same datacenter is a winning strategy.
In our minds. It's humanity's collective hallucination.
