Here's my summary on the conflict. Ukraine was a Russian puppet state, with almost all of the problems of Russia. The country was a shithole. Yanukovich promised Europe but backtracked when the time came. People started to get angry, protests begun. West saw that and started backing the protests up eventually leading to Maidan events. Putin got angry and losing a puppet state. Took Crimea and started to sponsor seperatist organizations in the east which were led by shady, militaristic people from the very start. Ukrainian government fucked up, couldn't secure Crimea, couldn't get rid of DPR / LPR. This led to NATO talks which made Putin progressively more paranoid over the span of 8 years which led to the war now.

Not sure if that's the case, but I think that Russia has interest in connecting to Moldova's Transnistria region, one way or another. If I was one of the members of Putin's circle or one of the commanders for this operation, I'd do pretty much what they're already doing. Envelop the big population centers and leave them alone if need be. It doesn't matter after they're blockaded, they'll eventually start running out of supplies and starve. I'd allow for women and children to leave the towns and be sheltered and fed, that's always the reasonable thing to do. Eventually they'd capitulate. Western aid is impossible under these circumstances. I'd keep an eye on the whole Ukraine with satellites. The Black Sea is already under Russian control. I'd enhance their surveillance so that nothing passes through. I'd be careful about the Belarusian border as well because even though allies, they can't be 100% trusted to not be bribed or to maintain as high vigilance as the Russian border. Mostly I'd focus on the borders of the NATO countries and snipe supply convoys with ballistic missiles or even artillery, if they ever come within range of the eastern part of the country.
