If enemy is overextended and re-grouping army units can attack flanks of supply lines you fight.
If losing fight obtains a strategic or tactical victory such as tying up enemy forces while armies are assembled for counterattack, you fight.
If Patton's third army is driving to relieve siege, and you can be resupplied by airdrops, you fight.
None of this is true in Kiev. refusal to surrender is just wasteful waste of life by arrogant leader that is unqualified for such challenges. I think it's the biggest for Any Forums, personally. But depends on who you ask. My factors are that it's something out of the ordinary within our lifetime. We're used to the middle east being a mess. Nothing can possibly happen over there that I care about. This is an actual war in Europe involving a nuclear armed country using its actual military (not just backing some rebels or holding contested regions). The biggest happening of my lifetime is still 9/11 but if Putin touches a NATO country, it has potential to be bigger.
We're 48 hours in and Russian forces can be heard on a webcam less than 1 mile from the country's parliament building, its not quite over but it will be very shortly.
