The way this is developing, I'm leaning towards the Afghan scenario. However If Russia captures Kiev by the end of the week and successfully decapitates the Ukrainian government, they might pull off a relatively clean victory.

Why do you believe there'd be an Afghan scenario if Russia took over? Ukraine had a pro-Russian government until the coup in 2014. It can be changed again and given enough time for things to settle down and return to relative normalcy, people will go about their lives. Ukrainians aren't subhuman shitskins.
