my family fought in both world wars against germany. my great grandfather was fighter ace in wwi, granddad fought in north africa as well as 3 brothers who also fought in one of the major european battles. my father fought in the african bush wars. ive spoken to my father about this, the mentality of a soldier then is perhaps is different to how it is now. back then it was seen as patriotic duty, you go and fight and serve the country, you dont question why etc. and a soldier fights for his men for his comrades, to fight and survive, the country and politics is secondary. although my father does seem to suggest that those wars had a detrimental outcome to our people, and that is what war is. it is detrimental to all participants.
europeans should not be fighting one another, our enemies are numerous and they are certainly taking advantage of it. we have welcomed enemies into our homelands which is another issue.
