When the fuck did it become Kyiv...

When the fuck did it become Kyiv? I've literally never seen any English-speaking source of any kind use anything other than Kiev until the last few days and now suddenly no one is spelling it that way. Have I been mandela'd?

It's always been Kiev. But since we're seeing Ukraine's perspective more now we're hearing their own way of spelling it. They're also wrong.

Its Kiev. My phone auto corrects kyev to knives. Globohomo is doing a psyop.

ukros spell it kyiv
russians spell it kiev

They released the talking points on Discord

But is that where the chicken dish is from?

This is a psychological trick, to get you to go along with a change of language. It patterns the behavior of compliance. WMD, collateral damage, POTUS, they introduce new words when they want to introduce a change. It opens your mind in a subliminal way to updates.

KyivNotKiev is an online campaign started by the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) together with the 15 member center for strategical communications "StratCom Ukraine" on October 2, 2018. Its goal is to persuade English-language media and organizations to exclusively use Kyiv (derived from the Ukrainian language name) instead of Kiev (derived from the Russian language name) as the one true name of the Ukrainian capital.[1][2] It is a part of the wider campaign "CorrectUA".

It’s like when they tried to change ISIS to ISIL.

Did you know where Kyiv was on the map until a couple of days ago?

Only retards believe this

It's been a shibboleth for a few years now, along with pronouncing it 'Keev' vs 'Kee-ehv'
Kiev is the traditional way but the Ukrainians have been trying to push Kyiv

Also, people used to call it "The Ukraine", rather than "Ukraine"

yes you potato farmer

They don’t use the Latin alphabet you dummy

Pretty much this. Czech Republic is going by Czechia now. Turkey wants to be called Türkiye.

not really a massive deal but some people are going to throw a shitfest over it because they'll assume you're undermining Ukraine by not using their name for it.

“Kiev” is deeply offensive

Yes, it's the Bearenstein timeline.

It's called the Mandela effect, I swear ten years ago New Zealand was far closer to Australia.

It was a journo op, because Kyiv reflects how the Ukranians say it while Kiev is how the Russians say it
Same as how it stopped being THE Ukraine (i.e. the [west Russian] borderland) and is now just called Ukraine around the time that Euromaidan shit went down
Or how Peking became Beijing when we all started bowing to the Chinaman
It's all just about signalling your allegiance. If they genuinely cared about being accurate, they'd say Ukraina, Rossiya, Moskva, Deutschland, Nihon, etc. Don't fall into their faggoty linguistic conditioning

Dont worry you're not. They changed it after russia took crimea, and its absolute cringe. They still call the historical state "kievan rus" though, not kyivan rus. How do you even pronounce kyiv lmao?

So a bunch of horse shit after the glownig revolution a couple years earlier?

You know what's fucking funny? They've been running this campaign for TWO WHOLE FUCKING YEARS and forgot to change Kievan Rus to Kyivan Rus.

Mandela effect

No, I still don't know where Kyiv is, but I knew where Kiev was.

In a few years they'll be calling the country "uk-rah-in" instead of "uk-rain", wait and see.

you confused?
>tranny flag
checks out

NEVER SEEN THAT IN MY WHOLE LONG LIFE!
>IS 12

everyone's a retard to a retard, I know
personally, I think it's fucking dumb to tell westerners how to spell their things, but that's just me
Kænugarður ftw

They also call kharkov kharkiv now. Probably some bad linguistics becuse both ov and ev are now iv.

Its weird how the english language keeps being butchered when it doesnt even have an authority for standardisation like all other languages do.

it was always Ki Eff

Islamic state in Syria
Islamic state in Libya

Pat attention nigger

I remember this, I never got why it was "The" Ukraine. What does Ukraine mean?

Cool, Im only using Kiev from now on then

Can't believe 2018 was two whole years ago.

>Islamic state in Libya
*the Levant
That was meant to be the IS of Syria and northern Iraq

nobody knows for sure, for some it's "borderland", for some it's just "country"

I knew Kiev was in Ukraine. That's good enough for me.

Its probably like Warsaw is Warszawa, or Vienna is Wien

i would think that Any Forums of all places would know this by now.

the media routinely changes words and phrases solely for the purpose of demonstrating control over the sheep. the main body of the sheep will immediately adopt whatever the media feeds them, without the least thought. once a sufficient proportion of the population has gone over to the new programming, the remainders are forced to follow along simply to be able to communicate with the rest.

this happens all the time. if you watch the tv show 'everybody hates chris', you can see a white kid call young chris rock a nigger. this was a mainstream broadcast tv show from not that long ago.

they have subsequently made that word some beyond the pale, murder-worthy word. it is just to make you jump through their hoops.

as they say 'keev' and write 'kyiv, all the drones will adopt it. within days from now 'kiev' will be seen as simply incorrect. in a month 'kiev' will be reactionary.

It’s all a conspiracy by Big Map

Literally it means "Borderland" or "Frontier"

etymonline.com/word/ukraine

So they didn't want to be called "The Frontier" of any particular country, but rather "Frontier" I guess. Not really sure.

It gets more complicated in Russian because the older way to refer to being in Ukraine was "Na Ukraine", which translates to "On Ukraine", which is pretty much how you refer to going to a place in your own country. This should now be used as "V Ukraine" or "In Ukraine".

This causes no end of trolling and online arguments.

>Warsaw is Warszawa
No, Warsaw is
>The New Jerusalem, Polin

I guess i can see the turkey one making sense. When you type turkey into google you get images of the animal. With türkiye there will be no confusion i guess lol.

ukrainians get buthurt if you spell it kiev which I also prefer myself apperently being the cucks they are your news agencies are trying to cater to ukrainian sensitivities

Supposedly it means "Borderlands" as in the borderlands of Russia. Similar to how Netherlands means "Lowlands". You can say "the Ukraine" or "the Netherlands"

Literally means borderland.

Oкpaинa [oh-kra-yee-nah] = Russian word for the outskirts (of a place, of a town, of a country)
Укpaïнa [ooh-kra-yee-nah] = Ukrainian for Ukraine

This just proves that the Ukraine as a country who the capital Kyiv has nothing to do with Kievan Rus.

Say it with me

Kyiv

>Y sounds like 'i'
>I sounds like "y'

Shouldn't it be Kiyv then?

Weird I didn’t think LHC was getting booted up till March

Can I get a qt Ukranian virgin, I live in Hawaii btw

Isn't Kyiv the Ukraine way of spelling it? Virtue signaling?

Quiv

Okay didn't know that. Stay safe and kill some for your motherland

No it’s from Meat Shops. Got one in the oven right now. It’s also pronounced kee-ev not keev godam retards

In my language its Ukrajina and krajina is a border region pr frontier. We also have a Krajina in north west of BiH. Ands serbs had Krajina in Croatia, in suraunded bosnia on the north west border
