this is about clearing the 2016 mess while the EU is busy trying to unfuck themselves and the USA are at an all time low.
Ukraine is critical to Russian defense, as it's all plains from Oder river all the way to the Urals. And the way things are being done, it is very likely Russia won't annex Ukraine, but rather install another puppet to do the clean up operation.
