The big red flag about all of this is that even China, who is on good terms with Russia and even renewed their alliance recently, did not explicitly support the invasion and claimed that "territorial integrity of all countries should be preserved", which can be interpreted as a subtle condemnation. China would have all the more reason to openly support Putin's moves on Ukraine, in order to strengthen their own claim over Taiwan, but they didn't. I think that they themselves realized that Putin made a mistake and now they want to avoid becoming involved any further (which is the smartest choice on their part).
