You won't impose sanctions and NATO won't do shit about this except stamp feet and cry. They did the exact same thing in Yugoslavia and while they think everyone has forgotten, they have no justification to intervene due to this.
US will impose sanctions on new Republics which they refuse to recognise, which will be very amusing.
