Is it really that bad? I met a ruskie named Ivan while I was studying in Germany. He was based. His parents were both former-Soviet-scientists and his father had managed to amass a pile of money by selling blue jeans on the black market back when western products were forbidden.
He mentioned that it was pretty rough there for folks who didn't have much wealth, I guess.
