Thinking about doing a pilgrimage to Mt. Athos. Anyone able to speak on this?

It's a place stuck in time, they don't allow women, not even in animal form. Don't disturb the monks please
I dunno. I read or saw something several years back that they can look upon a soul and determine precisely what is wrong with them, or to say what demon plagues them. I don't know what is wrong with me, and I was/am hoping to find out.
It's really all about the way they lead their lives there, every day has a dozen rituals to be carried out, the food is fresh from the land and the sea, the people have almost no modern technology and interact with eachother in their monasteries, going on long trips everyday to various places, they live their lives in a long mission of sorts. What is missing from your life may be an order or a community of that sorts, but you don't have to run to the mountains for that
Are catholics allowed?
>What is missing from your life may be an order or a community of that sorts, but you don't have to run to the mountains for that
I dunno, man. I feel as lost a soul as ever, despite the many times I thought I finally knew myself, and had myself "figured out". Maybe I have a calling, but I'm too blind to see it, too deaf to hear it. I just...want a truthful and pure opinion about myself.
Yeah, but some monks still talk about 1204 and such, they actually give the amish a run for their money
Do you have any passions in life, any interests that you'd like to pursue?
Is that Half-Life Lost Coast?
Yeah I can understand that, still I would be very intrigued to visit this holy place
Greeks love their mountains
>Do you have any passions in life, any interests that you'd like to pursue?
The only thing that gives me joy anymore in life is my hobby of growing plants. Otherwise, my work experience lies in IT, and my education lies in business (accounting). My biggest problem is my enormous self-doubt and self-hatred, likely stemming from my loneliness, drive by purposelessness.
ugly old and fat incels live there, who the fuck would want to go there lmao
As long as you're not a woman you have a chance, they are very strict about it. They did allow the guys from 60 minutes even, after a lot of persistence, I think one of them even decided to stay there. I hope I can visit it one day
that's pretty retarded. have sex
I went for a week. But, I’m Greek and speak the language. Not a lot of the monks know English. It’s either Russian or Greek really. You should really read about what Monasticism is in the Eastern Orthodox Church. Read about Symeon the Stylite, St.Anthony of Egypt. The core principles of monasteries is extreme asceticism. I don’t think you will actually be happy there, like the other user said you probably seek some sort of community and fulfillment. Also, maybe it’s best, if you are actually serious about becoming involved, to research carefully, and maybe become a priest by trade, and become a monk. It’s a hard life, and I don’t think you will find what you are seeking there.
retarded antisocial people who are also predisposed to being nazis like yourself
Well if you want to visit, you should read the Philokalia first to get into that mode of thinking, these people are very different in how they interact with the world
> Stylite
OP should really read about these morons. They spend their time on top of columns "meditating". That should give you a pretty good indication of how gay, weird and retarded this whole thing is.
>pilgrimage
Lmao poltard watched some RT videos, and now he's planning a pilgrimage to some holy place where only hardcore schizo believers go.
Better clean your room and find a job.
really wanna make a competing castle on top of that mountain and throw paper airplanes at that fag down below all day
>Also, maybe it’s best, if you are actually serious about becoming involved
No, not really. I'm just interested in finding answers, or at least direction, cause as much as I try to convince myself I know who I am, and what direction I'm wanting to take, I can't believe it. I'm just adrift.
`
I have to agree it’s a bit weird to go if you are from America and have no relation to Greece or Russia or even the Eastern Orthodox Church. I went for a week with my cousins and then just partied in Greece for the rest of the month. It was a good experience, but I don’t OP would appreciate it
You got any friends?
I guess you're right. I don't know what I was thinking. Shit. Just another useless asshole who's out of his depth, I guess.
No.No real friends, at least.
But what do you think you will find there. Monks don’t interact regularly with each other, and definitely not you, an outsider. Monks don’t attempt to be individuals. You are trying to find yourself as an individual. People find themselves individually by individual experience. You are definitely going for the wrong reason, as you are not even going to dedicate your time to the religion. How old even are you? Do you have friends, a girlfriend? Have a social life, get in shape, look how you want to look and improve your life. It’s cliche but I think you are discontent, and looking for some black pill in the world to make an excuse for your feelings
i suspect you are the reincarnation of some petty mediaeval tyrant
No, you're right. It was foolish to even make this thread. Just thought...I don't even know what I thought.
Never mind. Whatever. This thread can die.
kek reminds me of the Maniots and their beloved mountain towers, NOBODY fucks with the towers
No reason not to unless you're mixed race
I went in 2019. Stayed one night in hillendar and a few others in the administrative centre. Missed meeting the ecumenical patriarch baby minutes but all in all a very worthwhile and spiritual trip. 8/10 would kneel before gods glory again
Yes
From your posts if you are going to make a pilgrimage then do so somewhere scenic and quiet. Pacific Crest Trail, backwoods of Yellowstone, Yosemite, Rockies, somewhere in the southwest. Take a long journey to find yourself away from people and in nature. Going to a monastery in Greece is not going to help you. You can help you.
Yeah I'm here right now, it's gay don't come.
It’s ok user, but I think getting into a religion isn’t a bad thing. I just think traveling to Greece for a monastic getaway is a bit of a waste of money for your reasoning. I don’t know your life circumstances, but good luck with everything. It starts with just going outside more and talking to people. Good luck
the simple solution would be to step up or step off, nigga
