In fact, it was used in ritual sacrifice as NPC control, pushing even some ancient west African groups to achieve great collective feats. These injected Spaniards thus became the Ganado (meaning: cattle) which are semi-sentient seeing as the parasite is only able to influence the host through their central nervous system, until it’s fully developed that is – it’s the collective that mainly drive their actions. Meanwhile, their cult leaders who first convinced them into getting jabbed, i.e. Los Illuminados (meaning: the illuminated; enlightened), got a genetically engineered variant which allows the hosts to have full control and grants them power over the Ganado.
