Why is fascism often accused of being "left-wing"

This, for the unenlightened. But those who are a little more familiar with the ideological progression of politics and economics in 1800s and 1900s Europe are fully aware of the downstream path that led to Fascism, and then National Socialism. Both were reactions to what was perceived as ineffectiveness/inadequecy from other Socialist/Statist movements at that time period. A response to, as Mussolini saw it, an insincerity and lack of will by Socialists to enact their values, or quite simply...he saw Socialists as educated grifters. Whether NatSocs or Socialists want to admit it, there are clear historical links between both ideologies, and they are well aware of it; hence why they despise each other so. They view the other as corruptions of what is supposed to be the "correct politics", and thus are even more vile than the Liberals/Capitalists.

Left = Enforcing obligations on the individual for the group. Hive mindset.
Right = Enforcing personal rights for individuals at the cost of group unity. Self centeredness.
Both are shitty and can be intrusive if totalitarian, but Fascism is definitely left-wing AND totalitarian at the same time.

You're still using left and right? What's the use, it's not like fascists, conservatives, and libertarians have much binding them together other than them all not being Marxist. That's what the left has in common. There are so many ways you can split politics, forget that old dichotomy. Just have a cohesive worldview and firm principles, and have the capability to explain them.
