This. I sat in the cockpit a bunch of times when I was a kid, even strapped into the third seat for a landing once. No one expected terrorist would fly planes into buildings, normally they hijacked planes in shithole countries and released the passengers to get what they wanted.
Memory holed? No, plenty of people remember it, it's just that most people don't give enough of a shit to challenge the new normal.
