NATO was made as an anti Russia league. But the agreement was that it wouldn't add new members. But America added more members. With he end goal of surrounding Russia with NATO aligned nations. Russia Putin is mad because it wants to keep annexing it's neighbors and rebuild the Soviet Union. He thinks it's unfair that he isn't allowed to annex Ukraine without the whole world reacting.
So we've been in a Mexican standoff with Russia placing a shit ton of troops near the border of Ukraine and that's pretty much it.
