The problem with our institutions of higher learning, is that in todays socio-political climate, MIT would no doubt, be proud of this man.
This is the end result of not requiring well-roundedness in education. All of that has inevitably been willfully forgotten to cater to "diversity" and so-called "inclusiveness".
I remember failing a test for a grammatical error on the scratch paper I used to take the test... a math test. I remember losing points on English papers for poor choice of words, poor phrasing, or words used out of era. You can't grade for such things so easily in a class full of non-Americans and ESL students; as such instruction disregard technical grammar compliance and are sufficiently subjective.
We need to return to well roundedness, and not allow those so deficient in one area to progress through other areas no matter how capable they are. We should not be treating the mentally ill, though gifted, as if they are normal. Idiot Savants are only worth the occasional 60 Minutes episode, but that's it.
