The slope of the 2 triangles is not the same. The top shape is a quadrilateral not a triangle.

Solve what? That the area is different? Unless I count wrong one is 6 units high and the other 5. Area of a triangle is 1/2 * base * height. Pretty sure if you work it out, you'll get a difference of one square unit. Not like it's differential geometry or anything.

The answer isn't nearly as interesting as you'd hope. It's just an optical illusion

There are genuine paradoxes in math.
Consider a library of books. Some books have, in their pages, the name of the book, a self reference. Some do not. You want to make a book of all the books in the library that do not contain their name in the pages, that do not self reference, let's call this book X. If book X contains X, it is wrong, it self references. If book X does not contain X, it is wrong, it is missing book X which does not self reference. Hence book X is impossible. Kind of a problem in math.
