Bottom line here is, Post WWII the US had most of the worlds gold (you can't trade with your neighbors without gold), biggest navy and military, the best geography and infrastructure, and the largest intact economy. We chose to secure the worlds shipping lanes and export american-style democracy, with the Marshall plan for Japan being a key show of that. This threatened landed aristocracy who tried to push Communism, which is just labor farming oligharcy by any other name, and they lost that battle because the US was able to out-bribe and out-produce them. This forced the rest of the world to engage in politics in the US for the past 70 or so years which has been interesting.
